Estrella Science Fair
Register to participate.
All young scientists wishing to display a project at the fair must register in advance through this online form. We strongly encourage early registration. The final registration deadline is 1/27/2017. Here are the basic science fair rules for your review. Have fun with your project!
Scoring Rubric
Please take a quick look at the scoring rubric - Scoring Rubric
Note that there are two categories - experimental and non-experimental (research based).
During the judging process, posters will be evaluated and each student will be given an opportunity to share what they've done. The goal is not to stress them out, but to give them valuable experience presenting their scientific work.
Working Individually or with Partners
Working with partners can offer a good support system and a wonderful learning experience. Individual work is encouraged, but working in groups of up to four is allowed. Please be sure that it is an equal partnership.
Need help choosing a topic?
When it comes to choosing a topic, the sky is the limit! The best topics come from your own genuine curiosity about how something works, or why something is the way that it is. But if you have trouble thinking of something on your own, the internet is full of resources to help you choose a topic. We ask that you go to the topic selection wizard at:
http://sciencebuddies.com.
Once students have their topic chosen, register for your project on the school site. For those parents that are non-scientific please review this Non-Scientific Parent Guide.
Judging and awards.
Our science fair goal is to encourage scientific exploration and discovery and promote a deep lifelong passion for science. Each participant will have an opportunity to briefly present their project to a judge. Awards will be given to 1st,2nd, and 3rd places for grade (K-2) and (3-5) as individual groups.
Remember Photographs!
Pictures can be very important part of conveying information. Try take numerous pictures during all stages and happenings of your experimental procedures. These can be used on your display board.
Volunteers needed!
A big event like the science fair wouldn't be possible without the help of numerous volunteers. We have all kinds of different jobs to be done, so if think you can spare an hour or two on the day of the fair, we would love your help. Please contact Suzanne Bell at suzabell7@gmail.com to contribute your time and expertise.
